Big words . . .


On the forthcoming emergence of vocabulary and interesting words . . .

The American Literature website is getting a number of upgrades and fancy new features.

A lot of material is being updated, new material is being added, and you can now create your own library (look for the "Add" button at the bottom of a short story to start yours). But so far, most of the changes have been invisible to the casual user of the site because I have been focused on the technology that runs the site, making sure that it will support new features and more users gracefully.

The old vocabulary page was just a list of words with no functionality. I would like to improve that. For now, this page let's you know the plans.

I am also going to add a feature focus on small words. I was one of those little kids that had a very expansive vocabulary. I was often told to "stop using big words" -- which I found confounding because they weren't "big words" to me, and in fact, many of them were actually very short words. So, I plan to take revenge, and add a section on short words. You will be surprised by the number of three and four letter words that will elude your grasp without study.
