Judith Josephine Grossman
Pen Name: Judith Merril
Born: Januay 21, 1923
Died: September 12, 1997
Born Judith Josephine Grossman, the American, and later Canadian, science fiction writer took the pen-name Judith Merril around 1945. Merril was one of the first women to be widely influential as a scifi author, political activist and editor. Telling the woman's point of view in this genre was quite unusual for her time. That Only a Mother (not yet in the public domain) was one of the most anthologized science fiction stories of the twentieth century. Fun fact: In the late1970s through 1981, Merril introduced Canadian broadcasts of Doctor Who with a short commentary about the show's theme.
