Amelia Josephine Burr. Amelia Josephine Burr (1878 - 1968) was an American poet and novelist who served in the Red Cross during the first World War from 1917-1918. She was born in New York City, and graduated from Hunter College. Burr traveled extensively, particularly to the Orient, and is distinguished by her genuine poetic feelings and works of balladry. Her collection, The Silver Trumpet (1918) and her play, Hearts Awake: The Pixy (1919) focus on the Great War.
