Charles Kingsley

Charles Kingsley (1819 - 1875) was a priest in the Church of England, university professor, historian, social reformer and novelist. He is particularly associated with Christian socialism. He wrote many novels which expressed his interest in history, many for children. One of his hallmark works is The Water Babies: A Fairy Tale for a Land Baby, published in 1863. He also wrote Greek mythology stories for children in The Heroes (1856), and other historical novels such as Westward Ho! (1855) and Hypatia (1853).
