Dorothy Canfield Fisher

Dorothy Canfield (1879-1958) a Lawrence, Kansas native, was born with strong literary expectations. She was named by her parents after the George Eliot Middlemarch character, Dorothea Brooke. Canfield, who later added "Fisher" to her author credits, is best known for her timeless girl book, Understood Betsy (1916).
