The Shadows over Innsmouth

The Shadow over Innsmouth

The Shadow over Innsmouth (1936) is one of Lovecraft's most celebrated novellas. A young man visits the decaying Massachusetts seaport of Innsmouth, where the inhabitants have a disturbing physical appearance and worship strange gods from beneath the sea. His investigation reveals a pact between the townspeople and the Deep Ones—and a personal connection more horrifying than any he imagined. "I think their predominant colour was a greyish-green, though they had white bellies."
