John McCrae

John McCrae (1878 - 1918) was a Canadian soldier, poet, physician and artist who served as lieutenant colonel and surgeon during World War I. He is best remembered for his memorial poem, In Flanders Fields. McCrae died of pneumonia near the end of the War, January 28, 1918.
