Uncle Silas

Uncle Silas is a Victorian Gothic mystery novel first published in 1864 (an 1899 edition is presented here). It features the earliest examples of a locked room mystery subgenre. The novel is based on "A Passage in the Secret History of an Irish Countess" (1839) which itself was later published as The Murdered Cousin in 1851
