David Copperfield

David Copperfield

Of all his books, Dickens was fondest of David Copperfield, which he referred to as his "favourite child." Its full title is The Personal History, Adventures, Experience and Observation of David Copperfield the Younger of Blunderstone Rookery, published in 1850. Dickens' novel is considered his most autobiographical, with many events paralleling those in his own life. Featuring richly drawn characters including David Copperfield, Agnes Wickfield, Uriah Heep and James Steerforth, the story follows young David's development from childhood to maturity. To the delight of his readers, the characters get what they deserve; kind-hearted and well-meaning ones come out on top in the end, as we'd hoped they would. [Featured illustrations by H.K. Browne.]
