Amerika by Franz Kafka

Amerika

Amerika (1927), also known as The Man Who Disappeared (German: Der Verschollene), is Franz Kafka's first novel, published posthumously by Max Brod. It follows sixteen-year-old Karl Rossmann, who is sent to America by his parents after a family scandal. Kafka's only novel set outside Europe, it combines picaresque adventure with his characteristic themes of alienation, arbitrary authority, and bureaucratic absurdity — all filtered through the wide eyes of a young immigrant navigating a strange new world.
