The War of the Worlds
by H.G. Wells
H.G. Wells' most notorious science fiction novel, The War of the Worlds (1898) was first serialized in Pearson's Magazine in England (1897), and Cosmopolitan in the U.S. on October 30, 1938, the day before Halloween. The story was broadcast on The Mercury Theatre on the Air radio show by Orson Welles, spooking countless listeners who thought the martian invasion "coverage" was real.
